Learn All About The Maori Traditional Practice of Kaitiakitanga

The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. This means they are the first humans to live in this part of the world.

For the Maori, caring for the environment is a holy obligation known as "kaitiakitanga." In this duty, they honor and respect the land, and take action to be Global Guardians!

Much of kaitiakitanga derives from the Maori belief in the connection between all living things. This gives the preservation of ecosystems a great importance. Furthering this is the fact that many earthly things are treated as divine beings. We can all learn something from the way the Maori people look at the world, caring for the environment with their all.

Learn more about kaitiakitanga in our Discover New Zealand e-course for kids, which is filled with info about the country, its animals and more!

Empower the children in your life to know that they can make a difference. Children should know that they don't need to wait to be adults to have an impact, they can already be the change!

The Global Guardian Project is a learning platform for global minded parents to educate their children on how to play an active part in caring for the planet. We offer a monthly subscription to our e-courses, which include facts about animals, countries, and more, art projects, interviews, recipes, videos, and podcasts, for $15 per month. Get a free sample by signing up to our Insider's Community below!
